Mike Johnson joined Flagship in 2012 and is based in Flagship's Ann Arbor, Michigan office. He focuses on investments in healthcare and sustainability in the Midwest.
Prior to joining Flagship, Mike was a Fellow at the Medical Innovation Center at the University of Michigan where he co-founded a medical device company to develop a novel brain monitoring technology. The company was awarded runner-up for best business at the Michigan Business Challenge and was an "Emerging Company" finalist at the Great Lakes Entrepreneur's Quest.
Mike previously served as the Student Managing Director of the Wolverine Venture Fund at the University of Michigan. Mike evaluated and made investments in healthcare and technology companies, and managed the fund portfolio. He was awarded the David T. Shelby Award for Outstanding Leadership to the Fund by the Zell Lurie Institute of Entrepreneurial Studies.
Mike holds an M.D. from the University of Michigan Medical School and an MBA with Distinction from the Ross School of Business, where he received a Marcel Gani grant for work on a health IT market entry project and acted as a consultant for an electronics sustainability firm. Before entering medical school, Mike worked on a large clinical research study on lung cancer screening. Mike holds a BA in English from Duke University and started his career in sales and internet marketing at Random House.
