October 4, 2004

Waltham, Mass., October 4, 2004 -- Black Duck Software, the leading provider of software compliance management solutions for governing software assets, today announced that Lawrence Rosen has joined the company as a senior advisor. Rosen, a noted attorney and computer specialist, is the author of Open Source Licensing: Software Freedom and Intellectual Property Law, which was published earlier this year.

He is also the general counsel and secretary of the Open Source Initiative (OSI), a non-profit corporation dedicated to managing and promoting the Open Source Definition for the good of the community.

In addition to this new advisory role and his work with OSI, Rosen is the founding partner of Rosenlaw & Einschlag, a technology law firm in California. He often publishes and speaks around the world on open source licensing and patent issues and has written a number of breakthrough OSI-reviewed and approved open source licenses.

"Black Duck's technology and services address a serious issue and solve a real problem for any company developing software," said Larry Rosen. "Black Duck is committed to furthering Open Source development worldwide, and I will provide them legal and market guidance so that we can continue to extend the Open Source movement."

"Larry is a top legal expert on licensing and Open Source and highly regarded among the Open Source community," said Douglas A. Levin, CEO of Black Duck. "Open Source is now in the mainstream; we are excited to have Larry's counsel as we work to accelerate the use of Linux and Open Source software."
